AI in film marketing: where it helps and where it does not

AI is a powerful instrument in a film studio. It is not the director.

AI tools have changed how quickly a studio can explore ideas. Used well, they save time and open up visuals that would otherwise stay in someone's head. Used carelessly, they produce work that looks like everyone else's.

Where AI helps

Concept exploration. Testing many visual directions for a poster or a campaign in the time it once took to make one.Storyboards and previz. Mapping camera moves, blocking and pacing before a shoot, so the team walks on set with a clearer plan.World building. Quickly visualising environments and moods to align a director, a producer and a marketing team on the same picture.

Where it does not replace people

AI does not know what your film is about. It cannot decide what to reveal in a teaser, which moment will make an audience gasp, or how a title should feel. Those are judgement calls that come from understanding cinema and the audience.

The right workflow

The best results come when AI speeds up the exploration and people make the decisions. The final asset is still designed, cut and finished by artists who know the film.

Treat AI as an instrument. The music still comes from the people playing it.
