Masanada Mantapa

A Kannada music docu-film told through silence, shadow and song. It follows Yakshagana from the chowki to the rangasthala, built around a mother and her son.

The film

GodMode Studioz presents Masanada Mantapa, an original Kannada music docu-film. A story told through silence, shadow and song.

Some stories are better seen and heard than explained. This is one of them. We followed it from the quiet of the chowki, where faces are painted, crowns are lifted and gejje are tied, to the fire and thunder of the rangasthala.

A mother and her son

At the heart of it is a mother and her son. To the world, Mahishasura is a demon. To his mother, he is only ever her child.

We built the song around that feeling, using real footage from live performances, sound that pulls you into the Aata, and a lot of late nights we wouldn’t trade for anything.

We’ve put a lot of ourselves into this one. We hope it takes you back to a front-row mat.

Stunning visuals, soulful music and beautiful storytelling. Every frame beautifully captures the traditions, emotions and culture of Tulunad. For us, art is not just a talent, it is a part of who we are and something we carry with pride.

Devi Mahatme is my whole childhood. Staying up all night, admiring every character even before I understood the story. This song and concept was a literal refresh button for my soul. Pure nostalgia!

Love from the audience

Absolutely beautiful! The soul of our land captured through stunning visuals and soulful music. May the team grow to greater heights. Daiva deverna ashirvada.
Kudos to the team. Very well shot, I absolutely loved every bit of it. Particularly the grandma and kid composition, the movement when the paper assembled, the Dutch angles, the night grade and the use of practical lights. My favourite shot is the last shot.
Being a South Canara girl, this feels so special! Loved how beautifully you’ve portrayed our Yakshagana and our culture. So happy to see our roots being celebrated like this.
I happened to see the Yakshagana reels in the morning itself. Then when I watched the full video on YouTube, my heart was filled. It reminded me again how beautiful our festivals, culture and rituals are.
Masanada Mantapa full video nodiruve, tumbaaa chandaaa untu visually. So appealing to watch, estu chanda emotions capture agide, beautifully presented. Adhbutha sahithya, athyadhbutha chayagrahana… visual treat to watch.
I watched this on YouTube too. The visuals, presentation and overall effort were amazing. Your work deserves more appreciation.
Can be a preamble for a movie. Try writing a story line parallel to the narrative. Possible. I could see it.
Crazy work, I’m crying.
